Waddell community is located in Maricopa County in Arizona. Waddell is situated to the northwest of Phoenix. The original area of Waddell can be found right off Waddell Road, between Citrus Road and 186th Avenue and was established in the 1930's when the citrus farmer Truman started cultivating the land. He planted the first citrus tree on the corner of Cotton Lane and Waddell Road which remained standing and regarded as a landmark until the massive development in the location in February of 2009.
Other unincorporated areas to the west of Surprise, Arizona are still being identified as part of Waddell. An offer to annex with the town by the City of Surprise was then denied by HOA. Upon Surprise's expansion, using Waddell to refer to the location had fallen to disuse but the name's influence is still visible through the name of Waddell Road. It is an internal street that is running across Surprise, same with New Waddell Dam located in Lake Pleasant. Most of the new homes in Waddell and the communities are wealthier than those in Surprise.
